A conversation with a Obama supporter at an Obama booth (This really happened):
Chris: “Hi. I saw your sign there that says, ‘Be Apart of History.’ What do you mean by that, what history do you want us to be apart of?
Obama Supporter: “Well his campaign is different there’s a lot of people that support him and it’s a movement.”
Chris: “But that happens every four years in the Presidential race. Why is this different? What ‘history’ would Obama be making?
Obama Supporter: Well this year there an unprecedented number of young people that are registering to vote this year.....”
Chris: “Yeah ok, but that sounds like 1992 with Clinton and 1972 with McGovern. That’s not historic either.”
(Seeing the poor girl struggling to answer simple questions about the sign she was standing behind, one of her older fellow Obama supporter chimed in)
Obama Supporter II: “Well Obama would be the first black president.”
Chris: “You are asking me to vote for Obama because he black?”
Obama Supporter II:“I didn’t say that, I said it is a good thing that he is black.”
Chris: “Why?”
Obama Supporter II:“Well he’s a remarkable man.”
Chris: (walking away) “He certainly is.”
A few weeks ago I thought of an Obama political cartoon (since there really are none out there). It goes like this:
Man to an Obama supporter waving an Obama sign that reads "CHANGE” and another one that reads “Yes We Can":
Man: "Change what?"
Obama supporter: “Yes we can!”
Man: “Can what?”
Obama Supporter: “Change!”
Man: “Change what?”
Obama Supporter: “Yes we can!”
Man: “Can what?”
Obama supporter: “You know he’s black, right?”
I didn’t think it was that funny (certainly not to an Obama supporter) or particularly apropos, but after my conversation with a real Obama supporter it seems spot on.
I know that I am bastard, but common. These people are freaking idiots, or maybe they are just sheep. Either way if anyone thinks that this isn’t about race, and in a good way for Obama, and a bad way for for America, they are wrong.
